Day 21-Poet’s Billow Challenge: Purple Rain

In honor of his musical contributions to American culture, write a poem that integrates lyrics from one or more ofΒ his songs. Alternatively, steal one his titles and write a poem.

Shower me

With your summer rain

Soak into my thirsty soul

Come closer, I will submit to your –

Purple reign

      1. I love purple just because it suits my olive skin. The symbolism for me also includes the spiritual/soulful and regal quality of the colour. Black lace – I love! πŸ˜‰

  1. This touched me, Chevvy. I was compelled to read it aloud and as the words showered over me, I realized this this me falling in love with writing. Once it soaked into my soul, submission was a given. Love the painting (those raindrops look so real!) and you use of rain/reign. Prince did indeed reign in the music world. πŸ™‚

    1. I’m so glad this touched you Joan. I think your appreciation of words and poetry helps a lot. I used the word “soak” very deliberately and I’ve left it open to a number of interpretations which come with allowing the poem to “soak” Since it is a SIDLAK poem, ultimately the colour is the most pivotal part of the poem and even there – interpretations may vary. I don’t know if you’ve read any of the books written by SARK. She is a good author for women coming into their own and she would say: Have a juicy weekend or Eat Mangoes naked – or “Scoop your pleasure” I’d love to know what images form in your mind – you don’t have to tell me:-) It’s more about liberating your mind I think. πŸ™‚ So scoop your pleasure this
      weekend! πŸ˜€

  2. I knew who Sark was the minute you said Eat Mangoes Naked. Colorful writing with a flair, like calligraphy, watercolor pictures. She has books and wall-sized quotes featured in one of our small local bookstores. A scoop of coffee beans came to mind, then ice cream, then playing in the dirt out in the garden. Maybe all three will come to fruition this weekend. πŸ™‚
