Night and Day

Between rhythm and rhyme

wondering which it would be

words seemed to fail me

the notes sounded out of key

Then you walked into the room

arranged the lyrics to a tune

You blew me away– repeatedly,

endlessly, to heights not yet known

Words so cleverly coupled, selected,

slithered into slippery dark places

stirring memories and  dreams

painful heartbreaks of yesterday.

Caught up in an exotic dance

the music allured me once again

the beats, the strums, together

with words, they knew the drums

of my heart. They danced in  valleys,

on mountains, through the oceans

beneath the moon and with the sun–

lighting up life between night and day.

    1. Aww Kanal!, you just know how to make me smile. Thank you. I couldn’t make up my mind about the image until I found one of my own photographs. You see the conflict I have between music and poetry especially with your lovely comment 😊

  1. This poem is like a puzzle… all the words are there, just need to be rearranged a bit to fit together and make the whole picture come alive. Love the last line “lighting up life between night and day.” Makes me wonder if SAX was involved. 🙂

    1. Well, I knew what I wanted to say, but the words were failing me as I said. But a puzzle it is indeed to decide between poetry and music. See I want the cake and to eat it I’m trending to the kind of music that includes the poetry there must certainly be SAX – you know its my favourite instruments. Of Joan, you may continue to puzzle away – I have a feeling that you are a good scrabble player hahaha!
