Day 2 of the challenge from The Poet’s Billow asks that we take on the persona of being the first one to do something. I’ve chosen being the first one ever to play the saxophone. If I could play an instrument this is what I would like to play.

Over six hundred component parts
United in perfection’s art and craft
To this glorious day,
When I am the first one to play
This magnificent piece of satin gold
With tremulous lips, I touch your mouth
For the first time, breathing deep
As I curl my hand around your neck
Determined by the the end of this night
To make you mine.
I close my eyes, purse my lips
And make a few false starts
Then you give me the keys to your heart
Return my kiss with your fire
Rising from bass note, higher and higher
We’re both going places
We’ve never been before
First a vibrato taken to highest pitch
Then a tremolo trilling and thrilling
Every part of you.
The crowd has gone mad
As they rise to their feet
We’ve reached the crescendo,
The ultimate high note
The finest pitch hangs eternally in the air
My fine tenor, I declare my love
You’re the finest instrument sent from above

Wow! Just wow! I love Jazz and Blues. The sax transports me to another place, a beautiful universe. I could sit in a club listening all night long.

I guess it’s good morning your end. Well you’ve made my day. That is such an appreciative response and with your words, you’ve just added to the ambience. Can you see me on that smoky stage Lol? I love other instruments too but Sax is my favorite. Also, I’m seeing more women playing the saxophone and they all look so sexy. This was a great exercise in finding out so much more than I knew about the instrument. Love your exuberance 😃😃😃

This is lovely, Chevvy. And your previous comment made me think of all the female saxophone players out there. And last night, on a music sampler disc set I received from Jazziz Magazine here in the States, I was introduced to a couple more. They play a more hard bop, jazzy style, but still very good.

Thanks T – yes they are as you say jazzy style. I don’t know if there are many mainstream Jazz saxophonist – Sonny Rollins or Kirk Whalum style but I’m just glad to see the “sisters” playing when they do.

“Intimate” I guess that’s a good word to describe the relationship a musician must have with a Saxophone. There’s quite a lot you have to with your mouth to get the right notes, pitch, quality of sound etc:-)

And you perfectly brought that out.

I love the saxophone – I’ll teach myself to play it, for sure! In high school, I had to take up the clarinet since a sax was deemed “too expensive” – so for me, the clarinet was the next best thing, and we sat right in front of the sax section, so I could always hear them in my ears.

Wonderful. I found it fascinating to research how saxophones are manufactured and quite a feat to play. You should have an advantage though – having played the Clarinet. Thanks for the visit:-)
