In violent hours
Fending off pelting showers
You did not settle
You surfed the wave
Climbed the towering tree
You did not settle
In smoke-filled rooms
Care-less days and lonely nights
You did not settle
You carried with strength
The heavy load of a child
You did not settle
In unequal worlds
Victim of indignity
You did not settle
Colors have changed
But Black and White remain
Why should you settle?
Heroes have risen and fallen
Because they would not settle.

I found this both vindicating and empowering. It has the wording of a tribute but the heart of a call to action. Hence, I shall take heed.
Here’s to continuing to resist, and fighting for what’s ours, regardless of what lesser options they are forcing us to make do with.

Thank you Joan. There are so many things I wouldn’t have accomplished if I just settled though settling can mean different things for different people😊
