Just one kiss

Overnight

Very suddenly

Beyond completely

I’ve fallen

So in love with you

Have you fallen too?

Shuddering

In quiet suspense

As your lips touch mine

Wondering

Whether I can bear

A moment like this

Billowing

In the swell and swirl

Moving in rhythm

Frenzied rush

As we climb and soar

Heights not known before

Breathing

Erratic, in gasps

Bliss to feel like this

After just one kiss…

No turning back

we’re in the same boat

you and I– chasing the same mirage

in the desert of our lives that is

filled with life that we never see

we’re on the same road

you and I– looking at the crossroads

dreaming of the roads not taken

when the yearning began to burn

we’re on the same journey

you and I– we’re trying to move on

but our illusions spin us around

wanting to know the reason why

we are travellers and seekers

a tossing and turning of the restless

that which we have lost we cannot retrieve

because it will never ever be quite the same.

The fruit of his charm

Insignificant

As he may seem,

He is the Don Juan–

The seductive charmer,

Dipping into the nectar

Of all his conquests.

Jostling and nudging–

They wink and flirt

With a slight lift of the skirt

He is there in a flash

Collecting his stash

Tasting her sweet honey.

Unashamedly to the next,

He propagates the seed

Of the next generation.

So, it no longer seems

Insignificant

When we all enjoy–

The fruit of his charm

Condolences

Dressed in dark suits

All of them wearing dark shades,

Their obligation

Complete for the day.

It was a great funeral

Lots of people there.

Some came to greet you

Gave you a pat on the back,

For a job well done.

Did they understand

The pain you were going through?

Did they even care

What  the cause of her death was?

How long she’d been ill?

And what about you?

Did they truly understand

Your well crafted speech?

You spoke of your loss

The void, utter loneliness,

Of your love dying.

You cried out for help

But they did not hear.

Then they were all gone.

I felt your pain…I knew…

She is no stranger…

She visits me without warning

sweeping in, wearing her dark hooded cloak,

instantly paralysing all my faculties

as her opiate smothers  my senses.

She turns off my music, steals my appetite,

casts an eclipsed shadow of despair over me.

Sometimes she slips stealthily into my dreams,

walking me through a daze of dim empty rooms.

Some of them familiar, stark and solemn,

abandoned grey walls encroaching in.

Then we’re walking the unruly garden,

the open space surprises and  excites me.

When she leaves, Sun slowly returns–

trading smiles and agile footsteps

as I walk through brightly-lit aisles,

shopping for a new chance at happiness.

Buying stones and trinkets to keep her away,

still convincing myself that she will not return.

Then she is suddenly  there, painting my walls black.

Restless in pace, l still cannot see her face.

She effaces good memories and mists up–

my promising thoughts, drowning me

with rivers of tears and unsolicited fears.

Still I rise, fending her off with bright smiles.

In the distance, He reaches out to me

reminding me that I am not alone.

Patience and Hope are on their way,

Faith enters the room with his armour.

Take the plunge

Another Cleave poem – two separate poems combined to form a third

Don’t be afraid I want to

Take the risk, be with you

It will work out fine loving you

You loving me unconditionally

I, making you mine for always

How else will we feel in the moment

The magic that holds us captive

In your words, right here, right now

Take the plunge and take me

Dive with me into the depths

In ocean swirls of our dreams.

Looking into the distance…

we stare into the interminable distance

wishing we could divine its existence

what waits for us on the other side–

is it a land filled with unequivocal promise

or will we remain in Nostalgia’s guileless grasp,

longing for  diamond memories of the past?

will we ever see the rise of the golden sun,

will he who stands beside us still be the one?

the wind is a temptress with liquid eyes

when she breezes or dampens our dreams

the light you once knew– may now play its trick.

in this age without prophets, how shall we know

save to feel the warmth of our heart’s afterglow?

look for signs in the eyes of another’s to show

before we reach to the sky, let’s ask ourselves why–

what is that purpose that will drive our reason?

let this be the guide to hold true  in the season.

but in  this minute, this hour, this moment–

treasure it unconditionally, let’s try not to lose it!

It still stands waiting for us…

With troubled mind

You come to me with that look,

the one filled with many questions.

You had not anticipated feeling like this.

When did life stop being predictable?

Was it the day that we crossed paths?

Did it change your timetable and destination?

When you took the bus you knew its direction

but now you’re not so sure, did you miss your stop?

Or was it simply the law of cause and effect?

Boxes and cages

Little girl take care

Don’t let the world tie you down

Shelve you in a box

Throw open those doors

Wake up from those vivid dreams

Make them come alive

You were born with wings

Spread them out- take to the sky

You were born to fly

Step out of the box

That will confine how you think–

Limit your world view

Beware of the cage

That barricades your thoughts with bars

Of doubts and fears

Find the pearls within

Shake off the grey shells of doom

You were born to bloom

Hoist out of your own petard
